The LA Punk Film Festival exists to celebrate independent filmmakers who refuse to fit neatly into a box.
We believe punk is more than a music genre.
Punk is a creative spirit.
It is independence.
It is questioning convention.
It is refusing to be limited by expectations.
It is having the courage to create something original.
It is giving a voice to stories that deserve to be seen and heard.
Our mission is to create a professional, welcoming platform where filmmakers can bring those stories to audiences in Los Angeles and around the world.
A FESTIVAL BUILT FOR FILMMAKERS
LA Punk Film Festival was created to give independent filmmakers a place where their work can be seen, heard and celebrated.
We champion films that are:
Fearless.
Original.
Independent.
Unconventional.
Provocative.
Creative.
Authentic.
We welcome filmmakers working across genres, cultures, countries and filmmaking traditions.
A punk film doesn’t have to be about punk.
It can be a documentary, feature, short, experimental film, animation, music video, social commentary, comedy, horror, drama or something that doesn’t fit into any category at all.
What matters is the spirit behind the work.
FROM LOS ANGELES TO THE WORLD
LA Punk Film Festival is rooted in Los Angeles, a city built on filmmaking, music, creativity and reinvention.
But independent cinema has no borders.
Our 10th Anniversary expands the festival beyond Los Angeles through an International Streaming Edition, allowing audiences and filmmakers from around the world to participate.
Our goal is to create meaningful connections between filmmakers and audiences whether they are sitting together in a Los Angeles theater or watching from another country.
THE BIG SCREEN STILL MATTERS
We believe there is something powerful about seeing a film together.
The lights go down.
The screen comes alive.
A filmmaker’s work becomes a shared experience.
That is why theatrical exhibition remains an essential part of LA Punk Film Festival.
Our live festival brings filmmakers and audiences together for screenings, conversations, celebrations and the unpredictable energy that can only happen when people are in the same room.
FILMMAKERS SHOULD BE SEEN AS MORE THAN THEIR FILMS
A film festival should not simply screen a film and move on.
We want to create opportunities for filmmakers to become part of the festival community.
Through filmmaker interviews, the Filmmaker Lounge, red carpet coverage, social-media promotion, festival awards show and international programming, we work to give filmmakers additional opportunities to connect with audiences and with one another.
The festival is about the people behind the films as much as the films themselves.
INDEPENDENCE WITH PROFESSIONAL PRESENTATION
Punk does not mean careless.
Independent does not mean unprofessional.
We believe filmmakers deserve a serious exhibition environment, whether their work is presented theatrically or internationally through our secure streaming platform.
Our goal is to combine the independent spirit of punk with professional festival presentation, technical standards, filmmaker communication and audience experience.
